Hiking through the densely forested slopes of the volcanoes, you’ll be surrounded with the sights and sounds of an abundance of birds and mammals. This area is home to around 250 species of tropical birds alone. Look closely at the branches of the trees to catch a glimpse of a monkey.

You’ll cross over hanging bridges to get to your destination, a path that takes you through dense foliage. On your trek upwards, you’ll pass by a coffee plantation. Observe an early stage of the lifecycle of the coffee plant, and make sure to take a deep breath of the first hint of a coffee aroma.

Watching the birds flit from tree top to tree top, you’ll start to envy their mobility through the forest. Once you reach the summit of the trail, Atitlan provides a manmade solution. You have your choice of two zip-lines. One is 328 feet (100 m), and the other is 984 feet (300 m). Coming down the mountain is guaranteed to be faster than the ascent. This is the most exciting way to see the forest canopy – feeling the rush of the mountain air you speed through the tree tops.

Traveler Comments

Leonel Azurdia was very knowledgeable.

- SHANTHI I, DEC 2019

We enjoyed the butterfly house and it was nice for us that Leonel knows the different species. We appreciated Leonel's patience while we took many photographs. It was fun to walk up to the waterfall and cross the many swinging bridges.
