Birders visiting Cerro Alux will have a good chance of crossing several rare birds off their birding list, as there are several species that live in Cerro Alux that are only found in Central America. There is a loop trail through the forest for hikers. Everywhere you look, another brightly-colored specimen will fly into view, hopefully taking a moment to pose for the camera.

Cerro Alux is home to some especially beautiful Central American specimens. The blue-throated motmot has a bright green body, and a shock of electric blue below its beak that inspired its name. You may also spot a crescent-chested warbler, easily identifiable by its golden chest and a white stripe above its eye. On rare occasions, the singing quail has been known to make an appearance on the forest floor. Keep your ears pricked for its high-pitched call.
